Destroying Morale For Dummies
One of the main reasons for volunteering to go to Canada with a different company had been the prospect of a weeks R 'n' R at the end of it all.
I'd come up with several ideas about what I could do with time. I was quite keen to see the Rockies and maybe do some climbing. Or I could get up to Calgary and have a look around. I'd even thought about jumping on a flight to visit relatives in Toronto.
That was until half way through the exercise when I got the following good news:
"Pte ****** we've just had word from your own company. They are going on exercise in Germany for a week and want to take all their blokes with them. But don't worry - you'll get 36 hours R 'n' R before your flight."
Thanks for that.

Caught in the Rockies. (To use a two Ronnie-ism)
could have been worse. they could have just said get on the plane, you're leaving now.
As I can't use my comment box I sent you an e-mail which wasn't delivered. Nothing important, but gratitude for your suggestions. I'm going to be brave tomorrow and immplement yours and Amy's advice.
I may be gone some time!
I can't help but be pleased for you, really. The five days I spent in Medicine Hat were the longest five days of my life and I will NEVER HAVE THEM BACK.
By the way, I am going to be ultra original here and congratulate you on your 201st post. This is not the same thing as forgetting someone's birthday. 'Kay?
Greavsie - *cymbal crash*
Anon - true.
PI - Good luck.
Katy - I hadn't planned to spend any time in Med Hat. I think when you went some of the finer establishments had shut down.
Oh well, No jet lag then.
The Blonde - so you are 'Glass Half Full' kind of person then?
Oh no! I missed congratulating you on the 200th post as well (too busy shagging..sure you can understand that:-) )
Belatedly, congrats and I think your blog just keeps getting better and better.
Looking forward to the next 200 posts.
Jane - it'll be a sad day when people put blogging before shagging. And thank you by the way.
Uh
R & R?
Comforting to know that nothing has changed in the army: order, counter-order, dis-order!
I once thought I had been rather clever and skived off an exercise in Canada knowing the likely weather conditions, and ended up doing night on/night off guard duties in the coldest UK winter in memory. They could have saved the money and done arctic warfare training in Aldershot! It was that sort of piercing intelligence that eventually got me my corporal's stripes after 8 years! Still, fast-track promotion compared to you, I notice.
Z - Rest 'n' Relaxation - time off - usually at your own disposal although sometimes it can be organised activities that are non-military in nature.
David - Welcome. It's not quite as bad as it seems. The memoire isn't running in real time - at the moment in blog time I've served about 3 years.
Ain't that the way it always goes! Royal just drove about 8 hours to a camp, to spend one night and be told he had to be at a different one for 6 weeks. So another 8-ish hours...
Can't wait to hear more!
Wow, a whole 36 hours.
What are you going to do with all that time?
:)
It's the ideal, and usually,(esp. recently) - yes..
Kath - sounds about right.
STN - aha - wait and see - there's more exercise to go yet.
The Blonde - bottoms up!
